The Agbere community in Sagbama Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, is in grief following the kidnapping and brutal beheading of Mr. Clement Hamo, a candidate for the town’s traditional chieftaincy.
According to Vanguard, Hamo was abducted on Christmas Day by unknown assailants, who transported him away via the river. On Tuesday, his decapitated body was discovered floating on the River Forcados, located in Delta State.
The motive behind the crime remains unclear, with no ransom demands made.
Hamo was a well-known aspirant for the traditional leadership position in Agbere.
A local source revealed, “We got reports of a body found on the River Forcados. When some youths went to check, they confirmed it was the missing man. The body was beheaded, and it was later brought back for burial. He was running for the role of the traditional ruler.”
Describing Hamo as a respected figure, the source added, “He was a kind-hearted man. The community is in mourning over this tragedy.”
Another resident expressed disbelief, saying, “The news of the kidnapping, the beheading, and the discovery of our kinsman’s body has spread widely on social media, and it has deeply shaken Agbere.”
Bayelsa State Police spokesperson Musa Mohammed confirmed that authorities are investigating the incident.
