Gunmen have reportedly abducted an unidentified traveller and killed his driver along lse/lsua Akoko highway in Ondo state.
The Police Area Commander for lkare-Akoko, Razak Rauf confirmed this to newsmen Thursday night in an interview.
Rauf said that the body of the late driver had been recovered and deposited at the mortuary of the state specialist hospital in Ikare.
He assured that the police would soon arrest the abductors and rescue the kidnapped traveller.
According to him, detectives are already combing the forest to smoke out the criminal elements.
The Chief Medical Director of Ikare state specialist hospital Dr Ayodele Ogunlade confirmed that police brought a corpse to the hospital.
Sources said that the driver was shot at close range and he died on the spot when he was trying to escape from the ambushed laid by the kidnappers on the highway.
The kidnappers reportedly took the traveller into the forest after they confirmed that the driver was dead.
Vanguard gathered that the kidnappers had contacted the family of the victim for ransom despite killing the driver during the operation.
Recalled that an inspector of police attached to Isua Akoko divisional police station was shot dead by unknown gunmen at the same spot and his service gun was taken away.
