In a significant move to enhance road infrastructure ahead of his inauguration on February 24, 2025, Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the rehabilitation of over 50 selected township roads across 18 local government areas (LGAs) in the state.
According to a statement by Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan on Tuesday, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Ondo State, the initiative is part of the Governor’s commitment to fulfilling his campaign promises under the ‘OUR EASE’ mandate.
Adeniyan said Governor Aiyedatiwa last week released funds to mobilize contractors for the asphalt overlay, reconstruction, and rehabilitation of these roads, emphasizing the importance of investing in road infrastructure for economic growth and improved quality of life.
The statement added that Governor Aiyedatiwa Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Pastor Ayoade Babalola, stated that, “Investing in road infrastructure is essential for building a strong foundation for the transportation system, driving economic growth, and improving the quality of life.”
Babalola highlighted that contracts for the asphalt overlay of 60 km of road projects had commenced following their award in August 2024. He noted that the newly approved projects will run concurrently with ongoing ones from the outgoing Akeredolu/Aiyedatiwa administration.
The Governor’s 2025 budget includes a capital expenditure allocation of N433 billion, representing 62.06% of the total expenditure, a move that underscores his commitment to transforming Ondo State into an infrastructural hub.

- Iwaro-Ayegunle Road (work has commenced)

- Kajola Lane – Oke Ogun Street (work has commenced)

- Iselu Road up to Isuada Junction (work has commenced)

Akure (Group 1):

- Kajola-Davog Road
- Owe Akala – Oshinle – Oke Aro, Agunloye (work has commenced)

- Unity Residential Area Road, Oba-Ile (work has commenced).
In addition to these ongoing projects, Governor Aiyedatiwa has approved the initiation of processes for several proposed road projects, including the dualization of Akure – Oke Aro – Idanre Road, construction of Agbaluku – Imo Road in Arigidi Akoko, and selected roads in the Southern Senatorial District.
Furthermore, the Direct Labour Engineering Unit of the Ministry of Works has started road repair works across the three senatorial districts of the state. Babalola confirmed that the ministry is already planning a second phase of the Operation Zero Pothole project through Direct Labour.
This comprehensive initiative is expected to significantly enhance the transportation infrastructure in Ondo State, promoting economic activities and improving the living standards of its residents.
