German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has firmly rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal to relocate Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.
According to NAN, speaking at a campaign event in Ludwigsburg on Friday, Mr. Scholz stated, “We must not resettle the population of Gaza to Egypt,” expressing his “complete rejection” of the plan.
He stressed the need to prevent further escalation in the Middle East and called for efforts to ensure peaceful coexistence between a future Palestinian state and Israel.
Trump’s proposal, announced after his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier in the week, suggested that the United States would “take over” Gaza and transform it into the “Riviera of the Middle East.” His plan included relocating Palestinian residents to other Arab nations, a move that has sparked widespread international criticism, particularly from Arab states.
Amid the backlash, some U.S. officials sought to clarify the president’s remarks. Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the proposal as a “very generous offer” and insisted it was not intended as a hostile act.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Mr. Trump defended the plan, claiming it would offer Palestinians a chance to live in safety, freedom, and prosperity. He also pledged U.S. collaboration with “great development teams” to create “one of the greatest and most spectacular developments of its kind on Earth.”
