Gas Explosion kills One, injured two in Niger

One person is feared dead while two others are reportedly injured following a gas cylinder explosion at a vulcaniser’s shop at Kpakungun, a suburb of Minna, Niger state.

It was gathered that the incident happened on Christmas Day and authorities are yet to comment on it as at the time of filing this report.

Information gathered revealed the victims of the incident as Zakari Aliyu, Mohammed Usman Baba, and Umar Mohammed.

According to an eye witness, Faisal Avuya, the explosion occurred after the shop owner, Usman Baba, refilled a customer’s gas cylinder.

“The cylinder became hot, and Zakari, who was an apprentice, fetched water to cool it down as they usually do. However, as he poured water on it, the cylinder exploded,” Avuya said.

It was gathered that the apprentice died on the spot while the shop owner and his son, Umar, sustained serious injuries.

However, authorities are yet to comment on the incident as investigations continue.
