Full Time: Cameroon defeats Burkina Faso in opening game of AFCON 2022

The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations opening Group A match between Cameroon and Burkina Faso ended 2-1 in favour of the AFCON host Cameroon.

Sangare put Burkina Faso in front, but two penalties from Aboubakar mean that Cameroon following a VAR review was enough for the team to record their first win of the tournament.

Cameroon had another goal ruled out for offside after a VAR review.

Starnews had earlier reported that VAR technology will be used for the coverage of the 52 matches to be played in the Africa Cup of Nations

VAR is Video Assistant Refree.

Cameroon, hosting the tournament for the first time in 50 years, has seen the build-up overshadowed by the conflict in the country’s Anglophone regions, as well as an escalating Covid crisis, which, at one time, placed the event in doubt
