Tragedy was averted on Saturday in Ore, the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, when a tanker laden fuel exploded.
According to reports, the tanker was said to have veered off the road and fell into a nearby ditch.
It was gathered that the incident occurred at about 6:30 pm on Saturday in the Soka area of the town.
An eyewitness revealed to newsmen that the tanker immediately caught fire after it veered off the road and fell into a nearby ditch.
The eyewitness further stated that heavy smoke engulfed the whole area, leading to a reduction in visibility and heavy traffic.
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Ondo State, Samuel Ibitoye, confirmed the incident to Channels Television in a telephone conversation.
Ibitoye noted that no fatality has been recorded as a result of the inferno.
