A fuel tanker explosion has triggered a fire outbreak at a filling station in Dutse, the capital of Jigawa State.

The incident, which occurred around 8pm at Shakkotu along Kiyawa Road, reportedly started while the tanker was offloading fuel at the station.

Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as the fire spread rapidly, forcing people to flee for safety.

One of the witnesses, Baba Nura, recounted: “I was nearby when I heard a loud explosion. I rushed to the scene and saw that the fuel tanker had burst and the fire surrounded almost everywhere in the filling station.”

The inferno caused extensive damage to the filling station and several surrounding properties.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Jigawa State Police Command, SP Shi’isu Adam, said they received a report about the fire around 8pm.

“We immediately rushed to the scene with the fire service men.

“For now, there is no report of deaths, but our men are at the moment at the scene of the incident and details would be released later,” Adam said.

Efforts to reach the manager of the filling station for comments were unsuccessful. Despite repeated attempts to contact him, he remained unavailable, while staff at the station declined to speak, citing instructions from their superiors.
