Fuel prices in Kano State have skyrocketed, with a liter now selling for between N900 and N950.
The PUNCH reports that this sharp increase has prompted commercial tricycle operators in urban areas to double their fares, resulting in a 100 percent rise in transportation costs.
This situation comes in the wake of the recent #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest, which has sparked unrest across the country.
In Kano City, most fuel stations have shut down, while those still operational are struggling to cope with long queues of motorists.
Before the protests, prices had already climbed from N780 to N850 per liter, but the latest surge has worsened the crisis.
The black market is also feeling the impact, with fuel now being sold for as much as N1,100 to N1,200 per liter, depending on the area.
Motorists have voiced serious concerns over the escalating prices.
Efforts to contact Alhaji Gana Girge, the Kano State Chairman of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, were unsuccessful, as his phone remained unreachable.
