Members of the Lakurawa group have launched another deadly attack in Kebbi State, killing four individuals in Gumki village, Arewa Local Government Area. This comes just a week after the killing of two police officers by the same group.
According to Afripost, the attack took place at a construction site where workers were installing a surveillance mast for the Nigeria Immigration Service. According to local sources, three of the victims were identified as employees of the telecommunications company Airtel, while the fourth victim’s identity remains unclear. However, there are conflicting reports, with some locals claiming that the victims were personnel from the Nigeria Immigration Service.
A staff member from Sir Yahaya Specialist Hospital in Birnin Kebbi, where the bodies were brought, confirmed that the deceased were immigration officers. In contrast, Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed that the victims included one resident and three Airtel workers.
Upon receiving the report, Kebbi’s Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, and the State Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service, CIS Muhammad Bashir Lawali, coordinated the evacuation of the bodies to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital.
SP Abubakar stated that additional tactical teams had been deployed to the area to address the ongoing threat posed by the insurgents. The Commissioner of Police also urged local residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information to aid in ongoing operations.
