Four arraigned for stealing transformer cable in Ibadan

On Thursday, four men stood trial before the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, accused of stealing an electric transformer cable valued at N2.5 million.

The defendants face charges of conspiracy and theft, though they entered pleas of not guilty.

According to the prosecutor, Insp Oladejo Balogun, the alleged offences occurred in March and April in the vicinity of the Police Mobile Gate, Eleyele, Ibadan.

Mr Balogun alleged that the defendants conspired to steal the armoured cable from a transformer belonging to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The magistrate, Olasinmibo Sanusi-Zubair, granted the defendants bail of N500,000 with two sureties each.

She adjourned the case until June 13 for hearing.
