Footballer slumps, dies during training in Enugu

A rising footballer, identified as Chisom Oodo, on Sunday, died of suspected cardiac arrest during football training at Ogrute, the headquarters of Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Chisom who was in his early 20s slumped and died while contesting for football with an opponent during a routine training.

He was said to have come from his country home, Aji, also in the aforementioned local government area of Enugu State for the training when the incident happened.

Vanguard gathered that the late Chisom’s talent was discovered during the Enugu-Ezike Football Tournament last Christmas when he displayed exceptional qualities in the field of play.

Franklin Onyeoma, a fan of the late Chisom, disclosed that the deceased was selected as one of the players to be sent to Europe by a scout, adding that his passport and visa was ready for him to travel out before the tragic incident happened.

He said that the incident has enveloped the whole community with sadness and sorrow.
