The Agege Local Government Area in Lagos State has taken proactive measures to prevent the outbreak of cholera by suspending food vendors in schools.
Ganiyu Egunjobi, the executive chairman, revealed this during an interview with journalists on Friday, emphasizing the council’s commitment to safeguarding pupils and students.
“We have temporarily halted the services of all school food vendors to ensure the safety of our children,” Mr. Egunjobi stated.
He further detailed efforts in sensitizing the community through extensive radio campaigns aimed at educating market stakeholders and schools about cholera prevention measures.
Additionally, Mr. Egunjobi highlighted the importance of maintaining hygiene standards in schools and markets to mitigate the risk of cholera outbreaks.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and adopt precautionary measures against this deadly disease, which has already claimed lives in several states across Nigeria, including 15 deaths out of 350 cases reported in Lagos.
