The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed a fire outbreak at a one-storey building in the Lekki area of Lagos.
According to Vanguard, in a statement issued on Thursday, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the agency’s Permanent Secretary, reported that the fire broke out at No. 2A, Abike Sulaiman Street, Lekki Phase 1. LASEMA received an emergency alert about the incident at around 12:57 p.m.
“Upon receiving distress calls via the 767 and 112 emergency toll-free numbers, LASEMA swiftly mobilized its team from the Lekki Base,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.
Emergency responders who arrived at the scene found the building engulfed in flames. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries or fatalities.
The prompt response of LASEMA and other emergency services helped prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring structures.
“The fire was effectively contained and fully extinguished, with subsequent dampening down operations carried out to ensure the area remained safe,” he explained.
While the cause of the fire is under investigation, authorities are urging residents to adopt fire safety measures to prevent future incidents.
