Stripe-owned Nigerian fintech giant, Paystack, has suspended its Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Ezra Olubi, following a sexual misconduct allegation that surfaced on social media on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
The suspension was confirmed by the company in a statement to TechCabal, where Paystack disclosed that a formal investigation had been launched into the claims involving a subordinate.
“Paystack is aware of the allegations involving our Co-founder, Ezra Olubi,” the company stated. “Effective immediately, Ezra has been suspended from all duties and responsibilities pending the outcome of a formal investigation. Out of respect for the individuals involved and to protect the integrity of the process, we will not be commenting further until the investigation is complete.”
The controversy intensified after several old tweets posted by Olubi between 2009 and 2013 resurfaced online. The decade-old posts, many of which contained sexually explicit jokes, references to colleagues, minors, and sexualised content, sparked widespread public outrage and renewed scrutiny of his conduct.
One resurfaced tweet from May 23, 2011 read:
“Monday will be more fun with an ‘a’ in it. Touch a coworker today. Inappropriately.”
According to reports, TechCabal reached out to Olubi for comments via email, but he had not responded at the time of filing the story. The embattled tech executive also deactivated his X (Twitter) account on Wednesday, November 13.
The development has stirred intense debate within Nigeria’s tech ecosystem, with many questioning workplace ethics, leadership conduct, and accountability among top executives. The sector has previously faced similar scandals, including the recent case involving Oscar Limoke, CEO of Kenya’s Pawa IT Solutions, who was fined over sexual harassment allegations.
Founded in 2015 and acquired by Stripe in 2020 for $200 million, Paystack is regarded as one of Africa’s most influential tech companies. The company’s handling of the investigation is expected to draw significant attention both locally and globally due to its reputation for transparency and strong corporate values.
The resurfaced tweets and the misconduct allegation have now raised wider conversations about professional boundaries, online behaviour, and the expectations placed on senior figures in high-trust technology companies.
Olubi has yet to publicly comment on the allegations or the controversy surrounding his old tweets.
