FG Says $360m Released for Ogoni Clean-up

The Federal Government said it had disbursed $360 million to clean up the polluted Ogoni land in the Niger Delta.

The Coordinator of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project, Prof Nenibarini Zabbey, disclosed this recently during a four-day tour of the remediated project sites in Ogoni local governments in River State.

He stated that efforts to restore the livelihoods of the people of Ogoni land ravaged by oil spills have started yielding results.

“We are also mandated to restore the livelihoods of the people. I know that the board of trustees has released about $360,000,000. We have not exhausted that amount. We are still paying the contractors”, he stated.
