The Federal Government has expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of two Nigerians killed in separate violent incidents in the United Kingdom and Canada.
The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, described the incidents as shocking and disturbing. She spoke through the Commission’s Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Abdur-Rahman Balogun.
Dabiri-Erewa extended her condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims, noting that the loss has caused pain to the Nigerian community at home and abroad. She said the Federal Government shares in the grief of the affected families during this difficult period.
She also commended the quick response of the UK Metropolitan Police and the Toronto Police Service, urging them to carry out thorough, transparent and timely investigations to ensure that justice is served.
Dabiri-Erewa assured that the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission would work closely with the Nigerian High Commissions in the United Kingdom and Canada to provide necessary support to the families. The victims were identified as John Temitope Onetufo, a 23-year-old Nigerian who was stabbed to death in Lewisham, London, and Osemwengie Irorere, a 46-year-old Nigerian who was shot and killed at the Yorkdale GO Bus Terminal in Toronto.
