The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has claimed that the Federal Government did not consult them before making the decision to raise telecommunications tariff rates.
NLC President, Joe Ajaero, made this known during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Tuesday, February 4. He stated that the government has a pattern of excluding the union from important decisions that affect Nigerians.
Ajaero also mentioned that this is not the first time the government has acted without involving the NLC, pointing to the previous increase in electricity tariffs as another instance. He said the lack of consultation remains a key issue in their relationship with the government.
He further explained that during talks on the minimum wage, the government focused on its ability to pay, ignoring the financial struggles faced by many Nigerians. Ajaero added that the new telecom tariffs will be difficult for Nigerians to afford, which was one of the concerns raised during their discussions.
