The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), through its Department of Development Control, has demolished unauthorized parks and illegal structures at Apo Zone E, Gudu District, Abuja. The exercise, carried out on Tuesday, also targeted illegal developments on designated green areas in the district.
The Director of Development Control, Mukhtar Galadima, stated that the affected structures were built without government approval, describing the development as a clear violation of the Abuja Master Plan.
Galadima explained that the parks were demolished for encroaching on road corridors without proper authorization. He added that the illegal structures built on green areas obstructed natural water channels, which could potentially cause erosion and flooding if left unchecked.
“During our routine weekly inspection at Apo Zone E, Gudu District, we discovered unauthorized developments on green areas and waterways. Such structures cannot be allowed to remain, and we have stopped all ongoing illegal work. Developers who refuse to adhere to regulations will be arrested, while completed illegal structures will be demolished,” Galadima said.
Also speaking during the exercise, the Director of Parks and Recreation, Chinemelu Echee, emphasized the administration’s commitment to reclaiming all green areas illegally converted for other purposes.
Echee condemned the indiscriminate felling of trees by illegal developers, noting that such actions would no longer be tolerated. He added, “All parks operating without genuine approvals will not be allowed to stand. It is crucial to protect Abuja’s green spaces from misuse.”
The FCTA reiterated its resolve to monitor developments across the capital city to ensure strict adherence to the Abuja Master Plan.
