The Ogun State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the death of a 50-year-old farmer, Alfa Mustapha, whose body was discovered on his farm in Ageri Village, near Olodo, Odeda Local Government Area.
In a statement on Sunday, the command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed that Mustapha was found lying face-up with his cutlass beside him.
According to Odutola, the deceased had left for his farm on Saturday morning but did not return home, prompting concerns among residents.
“At about 6:02 p.m., the Chief Imam of Ageri Mosque, Moshood Mustapha, went in search of him and found his lifeless body on the farm,” she stated.
The discovery was promptly reported at the police outstation in Olodo around 6:30 p.m. Officers visited the scene, took photographs, and transferred the body to the General Hospital in Odeda for further examination.
Initial assessments found no visible signs of violence, partly due to heavy rainfall and poor visibility. However, a medical examination later revealed that the deceased had suffered gunshot wounds from pellets, indicating he was shot at close range.
Following this revelation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, ordered a thorough investigation to track down those responsible for the killing.
The police have urged anyone with useful information to come forward, assuring the public that every effort will be made to bring the culprits to justice.
