Veteran Nollywood actress, Uche Jombo, has stated that those who falsely accuse people of rape should face the same punishment as rapists.
The actress stated this against the backdrop of the acquittal of ex-Manchester City player, Benjamin Mendy who was accused of raping a woman and attempting to rape another.
Mendy, who had denied both charges, was found not guilty by the jury of six men and six women at Chester Crown Court.
He said the encounters had been consensual.
Taking to her Twitter handle, Jombo insisted that the false accusers should also attract the same jail term as rapists.
She wrote, “False rape accusations should attract same jail term as rape.”
Mendy who was on Friday, cleared of rape and attempted rape by a jury at Chester Crown Court, broke down in the dock afterwards before saying he was ‘delighted’ with the not guilty verdicts.
He wept as he left the court following the verdicts, but was all smiles later in the day when he spoke with Pogba on Facetime after his name was cleared.
The pair evidently share a close relationship after representing the France national team together and winning the World Cup in 2018 as part of Didier Deschamps’ side.
