Residents of the ancient town of Afin in the Akoko Northwest Local Government Area of Ondo State, known for their farming activities, have raised alarm over a swarm of strange insects invading the town.
When Starnews NG Correspondent visited the town, it was learnt that the presence of these insects were in large numbers, both in the town and on the farms.
Investigations revealed that many farmers are nearly abandoning their farming activities due to the infestation, which has also affected social activities in the area.
Two farmers, Alhaji Abu Balogun and Mr. Williams Babarinde, spoke about the menace of these insects.
They expressed fear that the offensive odor emitted by the insects might lead to a serious epidemic if not addressed by the government.
According to them, attempts to kill the insects using hot water and Gammalin 20 have not been successful. People are unable to prepare food or eat in open places for fear of contamination.
In a chat with the monarch, the Alafin of Afin, Oba Professor Abduraheem Mustapha Adejoro, it was revealed that the matter has been discussed in the Oba-in-Council.
Oba Adejoro appealed to relevant government health agencies to come to Afin Akoko and take necessary actions. The oba noted that his people are deeply worried about this ugly development, Starnews NG reports.
