Ex Senator Reveals Why PDP Lost Ondo Governorship Election

By Our Correspondent

Senator Nicholas Tofowomo, a key figure in Ondo State’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has identified internal conflicts, poor planning, and leadership gaps as reasons behind the party’s loss in the November 16 governorship election.

The election saw Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) secure a decisive victory with 366,781 votes, far ahead of PDP’s candidate, Agboola Ajayi, who garnered 117,845 votes.

Tofowomo, a former representative of Ondo South, expressed disappointment over being sidelined in the campaign planning for his district, despite his willingness to contribute.

He also cited the defection of former Governor Olusegun Mimiko and other PDP stalwarts to the APC as a critical blow to the party’s chances.

According to him, the lack of unity within the PDP and the absence of efforts to mend factional rifts further weakened the party’s position.

He acknowledged the APC’s superior organization and strategy, which resonated with voters across all 18 local government areas, including Ajayi’s home constituency of Ese-Odo.

Tofowomo maintained his loyalty to the PDP, despite his grievances, and emphasized that the loss reflected broader challenges within the party rather than a personal failure for Ajayi.

The house that divide against themselves will not definitely collapse as park of cards.

Ajayi’s miem and his desperation caused the party’s woeful performance at the poll. Critically observing showed that Ajayi was no match to Ayedatiwa. His hobnobbing with ZLP in those days tendered him inappropriate for Ondo Government house job. It was the turn of a more responsible party man like Eddy Olafeso to confront Ayedatiwa. Ayedatiwa might not have found it easy. The likes of silent APC members, I don’t want to mention names; would have queued behind Eddy. Factually, Agboola Ajayi was a bad market for PDP.
