Elvis Donkemezuo, the former President of the Ijaw Youth Council, has advised Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara to apologize to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, in order to bring peace to the state.
Donkemezuo made this statement in response to the political tension between Wike and Fubara, which has resulted in a state of emergency being declared.
Speaking with Arise News, Donkemezuo criticized Fubara’s handling of the political situation in the state.
He suggested that if the governor humbled himself and reached out to those involved, including the Speaker of the State Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, and other assembly members, a resolution could be found.
He emphasized that the governor could solve the issue by offering support or incentives to bring people back together.
According to him, the individuals involved had worked together in the past during the last election, so it should be possible to reconcile.
Donkemezuo also stated that Wike, despite his sometimes controversial statements, is a mature politician capable of forgiveness.
He suggested that Fubara had been misled by his advisers and should personally approach Wike to mend their differences.
He urged Fubara to seek reconciliation with the House of Assembly members as well.
Additionally, Donkemezuo criticized the governor for disregarding the efforts of stakeholders who had tried to mediate between him and the assembly members.
He claimed that when these stakeholders approached the governor with suggestions for peace, Fubara failed to respond positively, even though he might have been willing to settle the matter.
Donkemezuo concluded that the governor’s approach was flawed and needed to be reconsidered for the sake of peace in Rivers State.
