Eric Obhahie who narrowly escaped a horrific Boko Haram attack in Adamawa has bravely opened up about the devastating experience that left him traumatised, orphaned, and battling memory loss.
In a heart-wrenching account, the survivor who was born on October 16, 1999 shared that the attack which happened in 2016 claimed the lives of his parents and younger sister.
He recalled the horrific moment when Boko Haram militants butchered his entire family in his presence.
“It was a devastating experience. I lost my mum, dad, and little sister. The horror I witnessed is something I can never forget,” he said.
Obhahie disclosed that, in the aftermath of the attack, he suffered a severe mental breakdown. The trauma from the brutal assault has left him grappling with memory loss.
“I lost my mind. It affected me badly. I don’t even remember some things. I’m trying to pull everything together to piece together what happened,” he confessed.
He said some of the neighbours who were also attacked managed to assist him during his ordeal.
They took care of him before he left the state to seek medical attention.
Obhahie was subsequently admitted to a hospital for treatment, but the scars of that tragic day continue to haunt him.
The trauma of the attack was compounded by a near-kidnapping experience in the southwest.
After almost becoming a victim of kidnapping in the region, he said he made the difficult decision to leave not only the region but the country altogether.
He sought safety elsewhere, away from the ever-present threat of violence, as he struggled to rebuild his life.
He stated that the incident has left an indelible mark on his life, but he is resolute in his quest for accountability and a brighter future.
