Erekiti-Luwoye Community Apologises To Ondo Govt Over False Accusations

The Erekiti-Luwoye community in Okitipupa Local Government Area, Ondo State, has issued a public apology to Dr. Olaide Adelami, the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, and Alhaji Amidu Takuro, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

This apology is in response to a false and damaging publication made about the officials.

The publication, which appeared in some media on September 5, 2024, was attributed to Mr. Samson Akinniran and High Chief Babatunde Faniyi.

In a statement released on September 11, 2024, the community leaders, including High Chief Gabriel Okunuwa, Chief S.A. Enisan, Chief M.O. Fadayomi, Chief J.O. Fasusi, and High Chief Babatunde Faniyi, expressed regret and distanced themselves from the claims made in the publication.

The statement reads: “We apologize to Dr. Olaide Adelami and Alhaji Amidu Takuro for the inconvenience caused by the publication. The allegations made in the publication do not reflect the views of the Erekiti-Luwoye community.”

The leaders emphasized that Mr. Akinniran and High Chief Faniyi acted independently and not on behalf of the community. They condemned the publication and apologized to the Ondo State Government. Mr. Akinniran has been instructed to remove the publication from social media, and apologies have been broadcast on national media.

The community also canceled planned protests following a conciliatory address by Alhaji Amidu Takuro on September 4, 2024.

Additionally, a report on the customs and traditions of the Osooro people has been submitted to the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for review.
