Eight people were arrested on Tuesday in Lagos by the police over a series of cult-related killings around the Yaba College of Technology and nearby communities.
The operation, led by tactical teams including the Eko Strike Force, followed tips gathered through intelligence efforts by the Lagos State Police Command.
The suspects are aged between 20 and 30.
Among them are Adeyemo Abdulsamad, also known as “Cloud,” and Olamilekan Adeagbo, called “Skinny.”
Others arrested include Afeez Enitan, Ayomide Daniel, Mayor Samson, Basit Ishola, Quadri Sikiru, and Mariam Salihu.
Police believe the group is behind several violent attacks linked to cult clashes in the area.
During the arrest, security officers found a loaded Beretta pistol, four rounds of 9mm bullets, a single cartridge, two battle axes, and two cutlasses.
These items, believed to have been used during the crimes, were taken as evidence.
Investigations are ongoing to uncover the full role of each suspect in the recent wave of violence that has affected Yaba College of Technology and its surroundings.
The police have promised to carry the investigation through and ensure that justice is served.
These arrests happened shortly after the killing of a third-year Marketing student of the polytechnic, known as Swift.
He was attacked near the WAEC office close to the school on Thursday.
Two days earlier, another student had also been murdered in a similar manner.
The Lagos Police Command has assured residents of its commitment to fighting such criminal activities.
