The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has directed Delta State Accountant General, Mrs. Joy Enwa, and two other senior officials to appear before the commission in mid-January 2025 for further questioning over alleged financial misconduct during former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration.
According to Politics Nigeria, this follows an ongoing investigation into the alleged diversion of N1.3 trillion in state funds by Okowa, who was detained by the EFCC in November 2024.
Mrs. Enwa, Ekeruche (former Director of Finance and Administration), and the Director of Administration, Government House, Asaba, were initially detained by the EFCC in December 2024. Though they were released, they are now required to report to the commission’s Port Harcourt office for additional questioning.
Okowa, who served as Delta State Governor, is accused of misappropriating N1.3 trillion in public funds, including investments in UTM Floating Liquefied Natural Gas Company.
An insider from the Accountant General’s office revealed that the investigation has taken a toll on Mrs. Enwa, stating, “Her blood pressure is rising, and she’s been restless. She never anticipated being caught in such a situation.”
When contacted for comments, Mrs. Enwa refrained from addressing the issue directly, saying, “I think you have a mission. Please, you shouldn’t be asking me any questions. I’ve already told you to go to the source and get your information.”
The EFCC’s intensified probe underscores its commitment to addressing allegations of large-scale corruption and recovering funds allegedly diverted during Okowa’s tenure.
