Ondo State Governor, Hon Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, convened a meeting with night club owners in Akure following a recent raid by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
During the meeting, owners recounted how their establishments were damaged during the EFCC’s operation targeting suspected internet fraudsters.
The EFCC had stated that the raid was based on intelligence reports, aiming to apprehend individuals involved in ‘Yahoo Parties’ and those under its scrutiny.
Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed sympathy for the affected owners, encouraging them to document the damages for proper redress.
While acknowledging the EFCC’s mandate to apprehend suspects, he emphasized the importance of ensuring innocent individuals have avenues for recourse, while those implicated are given the opportunity to defend themselves.
Adding that he has been in communication with top security agencies to get credible reports on the incident, the Governor promised to intervene wherever necessary.
The club owners, who thanked the Governor for the timely meeting, said they were not part of those planning to hold a protest over the incident.
The meeting was attended by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Saka Yusuf Ogunleye, Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Pastor Segun Ayerin and a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Adefisoye (Small Alhaji), who is also a night club owner.
