Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has officially sworn in three judges who had been cleared by the National Judicial Council (NJC) but were not inaugurated by his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki.
Out of the eight judges recommended by the NJC, only five were sworn in under Obaseki’s administration. The remaining three judges, however, have now been inaugurated by Okpebholo in a move he described as fulfilling his promise made during his inaugural speech.
The judges sworn in are Ojo Maureen Osa, Okundamiya Godwin Jeff, and Edoghogho Eboigbe. Okpebholo pointed out that it had been 11 months since the NJC’s recommendation, but the former administration failed to swear in all the judges despite their clearance.
The governor stressed that such delays should not be allowed to happen again, adding that no individual should be marginalized for personal or political reasons.
