Edo Governor Suspends Monarch After Killings, Abductions

Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has suspended the Okumagbe of Uwano Kingdom, George Egabor, over rising cases of kidnapping and killings in his community.

The action was taken after the governor received reports of disturbing incidents within the area, which falls under the Etsako East Local Government.

The suspension follows the recent killing of a palace chief, John Ikhamate, in a violent event linked to ongoing insecurity in the community.

Authorities have also arrested the monarch’s secretary, Peter Omiogbemhi, in connection with the incident.

The state government believes the traditional ruler failed to manage the worsening security issues in his domain.

As a result, he has been asked to step aside indefinitely while investigations continue.

The governor’s office made this known through an official statement from his Chief Press Secretary.

The government is expected to work with security agencies to further investigate the matter and restore peace to the area.
