Councillors of Etsako East Local Government Area in Edo State have debunked rumours of an impeachment plot against their chairman, Hon. Benedicta Attoh.

Led by the Leader of the House, Hon. Solomon Oghuma, the councillors, during a solidarity visit to Attoh’s residence in Okpekpe, reaffirmed their loyalty and dismissed the allegations as false and baseless. They described Attoh as a compassionate and effective leader committed to the welfare of her people and vowed not to succumb to intimidation or inducements to betray her.

“We are fully behind our chairman and want her reinstated to continue her service to humanity. Her leadership has brought significant improvements to the lives of the people,” the councillors stated. They also cautioned against actions that could disrupt democracy in the state, reiterating their unwavering support for Attoh.

In her response, Chairman Attoh expressed deep appreciation for the councillors and leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for their solidarity. She credited the harmonious working relationship between the councillors, supervisors, and other local government stakeholders as the foundation for the successes recorded in the council.

Appealing to Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, Attoh urged him to reconsider his stance and reinstate the suspended chairmen. She emphasized the need for peace and unity across the state, assuring the governor of her readiness to collaborate with him for the benefit of the people.

“The governor is the father of all in Edo State, irrespective of political affiliation. I have done nothing wrong to deserve suspension. As a leader, I appeal to him to allow us to continue our service to the masses. We are committed to supporting his administration and fostering development across the state,” she said.

Attoh expressed optimism that Governor Okpebholo, known for his peaceful disposition, would reconsider his decision. She concluded by placing her trust in divine intervention, adding, “God remains the ultimate authority, and we look to Him for guidance and strength.”
