Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebute Ipare, particularly from Mahin Ward 2 in the Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, have voiced their opposition to the nomination of Mr. Oguniyi Emmanuel as the Councillorship candidate for their community.
On Monday, December 16th, local residents organized a peaceful protest to express their dissatisfaction with Oguniyi’s nomination. The demonstrators, all natives of Ebute Ipare, carried placards bearing messages such as “Oguniyi is not from Ebute Ipare,” “Emmani, return to your town; you cannot benefit from a community you do not belong to,” and “We reject the imposition of Emmanuel Oguniyi.”
As they marched through Ebute Ipare, the protesters waved leaves and chanted songs that conveyed their discontent. They later gathered at Igoemoni Community Grammar School, where they spoke to the media about their concerns regarding Oguniyi’s candidacy, which they believe was unjustly imposed upon them.
Comrade Olanipkun Ojatuase, the Youth Leader of Ebute Ipare, stated that one person’s decision cannot override the sentiments of the local populace. He urged Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to reject the imposition of a “complete stranger” as their Councillor, highlighting that the individual who previously nominated Oguniyi as Ward Chairman has since defected from the APC. Ojatuase emphasized that there are qualified sons of Ebute Ipare who can adequately represent the community.
Mrs. Anthonia Mafimisebi, a prominent woman leader, congratulated Governor Aiyedatiwa on his election victory and reaffirmed the community’s support for his administration. She appealed to the Governor to prioritize fairness by selecting a local candidate for the Councillorship.
Elder statesman and community leader Ogundeji James also addressed the crowd, asserting that it is essential for Governor Aiyedatiwa to allow a true son of Ebute Ipare to represent the community, especially as local government administration shifts towards greater autonomy.
