The Department of State Services (DSS) has filed terrorism charges against Muhammad Mahdi Shehu, a self-proclaimed activist, at the Federal High Court in Kaduna.
The charges were filed on January 17, 2025, and made public on January 21, 2025.
The DSS also sought and received permission from the court to detain Shehu for 60 days for further investigation.
Shehu faces five charges related to terrorism, including spreading false information intended to cause public panic, distributing terrorism-related false content, and making misleading claims online, Vanguard reports.
These charges relate to his alleged involvement in sharing manipulated videos that falsely claimed the Nigerian government had allowed France to set up a military base in northern Nigeria.
