Drama as Edo Governor fumbles with figures during budget presentation

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, faced an awkward moment during the presentation of the 2025 budget at the Edo State House of Assembly.

The governor, who assumed office in November after his victory in the October off-cycle election, struggled briefly to pronounce the N605 billion figure of the proposed budget. The incident, captured in a viral video, occurred as he unveiled the “Budget of Renewed Hope for a Rising Edo,” which represents a 25% increase from the 2024 fiscal plan.

Despite the stumble, Governor Okpebholo continued his presentation, explaining that 37% (N223 billion) of the budget would cover recurrent expenses, while 63% (N381 billion) was earmarked for capital projects. He highlighted that the budget was developed through extensive consultations and aligns with his administration’s five-point agenda: Security, Infrastructure Development, Healthcare, Food Sufficiency, and Education.

The moment has sparked mixed reactions, with some dismissing it as a minor lapse while others criticized the governor’s delivery during the critical presentation.
