Don’t pitch tent with any aspirant, Faboyede tells PDP Caretaker Committee in Ondo

  • Says I have no issues in who becomes the gubernatorial candidate
  • As party leaders avert looming crisis within the PDP family

Engr Clement Faboyede, the Chairman of the newly constituted People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Caretaker Committee in Ondo State, has told members of the Committee on Thursday that the future of the Party is in their hands, and would be determined by their sincerity of purpose and the level of commitment to the growth of the party in the state.

He gave this charge while administering the oath of offices and allegiances on the newly nominated members of the caretaker committee at the party’s secretariat in Akure, Ondo State Capital.

“I have no issues in who becomes the gubernatorial candidate because all the aspirants of our party are people of great minds. My target is for the PDP in Ondo State to occupy the Alagbaka Government House in February 24, 2021, because there is little or nothing a State Chairman can do for the members of the party without a sitting governor.”

“I want you all to see this as a call to service and not an avenue to engage in political bickerings, dangerous maneuverings, or pitching tent with any aspirant in a manner that can cause harm to the party.”

“The future of this party lies in our hands, and I cannot afford to fail my people who are looking up to me politically. I have a large political family in my Local Government and I must not allow their expectations to be rudely cut off”, Faboyede said in a statement made available to Starnews NG by Mr. Leye Igbabo, a member of the Directorate of Media and Publicity of the Party in Ondo State.

In another development, Starnews NG reports that the leaders of the PDP in Ondo State have been praised for averting a looming crisis within the PDP family in Ondo State.

It will be recalled that after the party successfully conducted both ward and Local Government congresses, the conduct of state congress for the State Executive Committee was stalled by the emergence of a world Pandemic, Covid-19, which necessitated a stay-at-home order by the State Government.

While the members of the ward and Local Government executive committees were inaugurated on March 31 and April 2, 2020, by the State Chairman, Faboyede and the National Vice Chairman Southwest, Eddy Olafeso, the outgone State Executive Committee was transmuted into a Caretaker Committee by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP via a letter dated March 29, 2020, mandating it to run the affairs of the party “with effect from April 5, 2020, till such a time when it shall be possible for the conduct of the State Congress for the election of State Officers: provided that they shall not serve in such capacity for more than three months from April 5, 2020”.

This directive by the NWC did not go down well with some members of the party who threatened to tamper with the peace of the PDP in Ondo State.

To avert the looming crisis, the leaders of the PDP led by Chief Segun Adegoke waded into the matter and held an emergency peace meeting with all the aggrieved members in Ondo town, Ondo West Local Government Area of the Ondo State, where the issues were amicably resolved.

Other leaders in attendance were: Dr Tayo Dairo, Dr. Eddy Olafeso and Dr Gbakinro Jacob, among others.

Starnews NG can report that other members of the PDP Caretaker Committee who had since been sworn after the Chairman, Faboyede, took oath of office, include: Prince Zacheus Adeniyi, Alhaji Yusuf, Chief Mrs Esther Ebiwonjumi, Hon Dele Fagoriola, Hon. Afolabi Akinbowale, Hon. Bode Obanla, while Chief Oyedele Ibini will serve as the Secretary to the new committee.

The names of other members of the committee were not gotten by our correspondent as at the time of this report.
