Diri Becomes Leader of South-South Governors Forum

Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has been chosen as the new chairman of the South-South Governors Forum.

The decision was made during the forum’s ongoing meeting in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State.

Diri, who is serving his second term as governor, will lead the group as they tackle challenges affecting the oil-rich region.

The South-South, often referred to as the nation’s economic hub, has recently experienced shifts in political alignment.

While the region was previously dominated by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Congress (APC) has made gains, now controlling Cross River, Edo, and Delta states.

The governors are expected to focus on critical regional matters during their meeting.
