Details Of Tinubu’s Private Meeting With Anyim, Olisa Metuh Emerge

President Bola Tinubu had a meeting with former Senate President and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim, at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday.

Anyim, who served during the presidency of Goodluck Jonathan, arrived at the villa with Olisah Metuh, the former National Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), just before 2 pm.

In 2022, Anyim expressed his desire to run for the presidency on the PDP’s ticket. However, in March 2023, the party decided to suspend Anyim due to allegations of engaging in activities contrary to the party’s interests. One of the allegations was his support for the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru.

On the other hand, Olisah Metuh made headlines when he resigned from the PDP and withdrew from partisan politics entirely in October 2022. In a letter addressed to the party’s National Chairman, he cited health reasons as the justification for his decision.

Following their meeting with President Tinubu, Senator Anyim spoke to reporters and stated that the visit primarily aimed to congratulate the President on his inauguration and acknowledge the achievements he has made so far. They also had candid discussions on various topics.

Anyim expressed, “It was a great honor to pay a courtesy visit to the President and congratulate him, firstly, on his successful inauguration as the 16th President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and also to encourage and congratulate him on the bold steps he has taken thus far. We had extensive heart-to-heart discussions, but primarily, it was to congratulate him.”

Metuh, the former PDP spokesman, also shared his thoughts, expressing confidence that the Tinubu administration will foster national unity despite the country’s turmoil in recent years. He stated, “We came to see the President to commend him for his impressive start, the policies he has implemented, his inclusiveness, and, most importantly, to advocate for the idea of participatory governance and democracy. We believe that for policies and programs, there should be options and alternatives, and only through unity can we achieve success. Our nation has endured suffering for over eight years, but we believe that from now on, Mr. President has shown us the path to national unity and a brighter future.”
