Details Of Southwest Governors Meeting In Lagos Emerge

The six governors of Nigeria’s Southwest region have agreed to create a joint security outfit to tackle banditry and other crimes.

They also plan to establish regional food hubs to help curb rising food prices and related challenges.

This decision was announced by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu after a meeting of the Southwest Governors’ Forum at Lagos House, Ikeja.

The meeting, which was held behind closed doors, included governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), and Ademola Adeleke (Osun).

Discussions focused on regional security, agriculture, food supply, economic cooperation, and the Southwest Development Commission.

This follows a previous meeting in June 2024, where Sanwo-Olu was named chairman of the forum.

Since then, the governors have worked on policies to boost development in the region.

In fact, this is a new beginning of a laudable idea for South West region. Overtime, we have always been depending on the North for foods supply to the South, particularly South West. I pray God will use our governors to effect a positive change.

Regional Security Network again? Where did they put South West Security Network that was code-named Amotekun? Is it that they are oblivious of the essence of Amotekun? They want to create another one as what again? Are they not aware of the shortcomings of the regional efforts at regional arrangement in Nigeria’s federalism? Why are they not reinvigorating Amotekun to serve whatever purpose they intend. They should rather reengineer the present security architecture rather than wasting another efforts and resources on another fantom fantasy.
