“Detached from Reality” – Oby Ezekwesili Criticizes Tinubu Over Food Stampede Remarks

Former Minister of Education and founder of the FixPolitics Initiative, Oby Ezekwesili, has criticized President Bola Tinubu and other political leaders, accusing them of lacking empathy and failing to address Nigeria’s worsening crises.

Ezekwesili’s comments followed a series of tragic food distribution stampedes in Ibadan, Anambra, and the Federal Capital Territory, which left over 60 people dead, including children.

Expressing her discontent on X, Ezekwesili lamented the insensitivity of public officials. “Humility and empathy remain in short supply among our public officials, and that’s unfortunate,” she stated.

In his response to the incidents, President Tinubu attributed the stampedes to “indiscipline” among recipients and poor planning by organizers. However, Ezekwesili dismissed his remarks as disconnected from the struggles of ordinary Nigerians.

“These self-indulgent folks live in luxury and remain blind to how desperate the times are,” she said.

She further accused the Tinubu administration of benefiting from the hardships faced by Nigerians and called for urgent accountability to tackle the root causes of poverty and despair across the country.
