Delta Youth Assembly – Hon Ogbolu moves Motion for the Sensitization of Deltans on the flood alert

On Friday, 11th September, 2020, during the 4th sitting of the honorable members of the Delta State Youth Assembly. Hon Princewill Ogbolu ( Member Representing Ndokwa East DYA) moved his first motion in the hallowed chambers.

The motion is centered on the “Sensitization of Deltans on the flood alert; The motion reads as follows ;This Youth Parliament urges His Excellency, the Governor of Delta State, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa to direct the Commissioner for Information, Commissioner Bureau for Special Duties, Director General State Emergency Management Agency and other related agencies in the State to begin immediate sensitization of Deltans especially those living in flood prone areas of the State on the alert raised by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency with a view to ensuring that the people evacuate the susceptible areas. Also urging His Excellency to use his good office to direct and provide the means for the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development to assist with adequate palliatives to ameliorate the sufferings of potential evacuees”

This motion was promptly seconded Honorable Colleague representing Bomadi Constituency, Hon. Ekede Pere-ere Besta.
The motion was aptly debated with commendations given to His Excellency on his interventions during previous flood disasters and urging him to do more now and early enough. It was eventually passed successfully by a voice vote.

This motion was spurred by a publication on the imminence of flood by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) where they highlighted Ndokwa East communities and some other communities in other parts of Delta State that would be affected by flood.
During the course of his debate, he brought to the attention of the house that the susceptible areas are rural areas that do not have access to such NIMET informations and publications among other important details fully aired by the Nigerian Television Authority, Delta Broadcasting Television Asaba and Warri.

The member representing Ndokwa East also used the medium to reach out to fellow Ndokwa Easterners to take necessary precautions and actions in this regard to totally avoid or ameliorate personal losses.
