Defence Minister Outlines Armed Forces’ Strategy Against Lakurawa Terrorists

The Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Armed Forces’ commitment to defeating the Lakurawa terrorist group and other criminal elements in the northern region.

Speaking during a visit to Sokoto on Monday to inspect the air component facilities of Operation Fansan Yamma, Abubakar highlighted the military’s significant progress in securing the region.

He commended the troops for their dedication, referencing reports from a local government chairman in Kebbi State that confirmed the military’s strong presence in formerly affected areas. “The commitment and hard work of our security personnel have effectively driven the Lakurawa out of these regions,” he said.

Airstrikes and New Equipment Boost Military Efforts

Abubakar also praised the Nigerian Air Force for its success in neutralizing bandit hideouts through targeted airstrikes. “The air force has achieved notable success, bombing several bandit camps and forcing the criminals into retreat,” he stated.

To further enhance these efforts, he revealed the recent deployment of advanced air assets in Katsina, including state-of-the-art helicopters designed to combat banditry and terrorist activities. He assured that some of these assets would soon be redeployed to Sokoto to reinforce the ongoing operations.

Community Impact

The minister emphasized that residents of the affected areas have seen firsthand the impact of the military’s intensified operations. “People in these communities can testify to the effectiveness of our actions,” he said.

Accompanying Abubakar on the visit were the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, and other senior military officials, reflecting the collaborative approach being taken to restore peace and security in the region.

What caliber of service chiefs Nigeria is having exposing security strategies before acting.
Last police said they have known the locations of the LAKURAWA, today service chief is telling press the strategy against them. That’s not the way to tackle security challenges.
They have to act before granting press conference.
This one of the major reasons why we can’t make enough progress in tackling security challenges in Nigeria
