Dear Bamidele Akingboye, hope you now have a voter’s card?

Chief Akingboye,

Let me first congratulate you for earning yourself a good name as a popular figure in the politics of Ondo State.

It will also be an understatement to say that you are a good party man considering your stability and consistency as a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State for over 21 years without leaving the party or involved in anti-party activities even though you lost elections.

I am pleased with your campaign activities recently in the PDP. Your visibility on the field is unparalleled and second to none.

At a time some aspirants in the PDP are doing nothing, waiting and lobbying some cabals to endorse and pronounce them candidate of the party, you were seen moving from ward to ward, local government by local government, from one Senatorial District to another, to consult party leaders and PDP bigwigs towards the actualisation of your governorship aspiration ahead of the election on November 16, 2024.

For people like you and few leaders in the party, who remain consistent and are spending money from their personal purses to provide viable opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, the PDP would have long been forgotten. I give kudos to you and the few leaders I would rather not mention in this piece!

Having said this, I wish to ask you if you now have a permanent voter’s card (PVC). I apologise for this question, this is not meant to embarrass you, or to discredit your personality. But I asked to remind you so that you don’t forget how you were technically played out of the game after gaining much popularity in the 2020 governorship race.

Recall how you were disqualified from participating in the 2020 PDP gubernatorial screening for presenting a temporary voter’s card after your permanent voter’s card was allegedly stolen by people threatened by your gubernatorial ambition.

It became news that you don’t have a permanent voter’s card. People were surprised how you can be running for an elective office, and you don’t have a voter’s card to vote in such an election.

Fortunately, you were able to produce the permanent voter’s card (PVC) thereafter as requested by the PDP Appeal Committee, but maybe due to the timing, or political intricacies and magic, I could remember you didn’t receive any response or clearance from the committee to date.

As a party man, you overlooked this disappointment and accepted your fate after spending millions. You earned everyone’s respect when you still supported Eyitayo Jegede for the election, and gave your best financially, materially and politically.

I am sure you will now realize why this question is vital. Even though we reported the story in Starnews NG that you voted in your electoral unit during the governorship election with the same permanent voter’s card, PVC, I still want to ask again if you still have it as your popularity is rising by the day?

I hope it is well protected and kept in a safe box ahead of the PDP gubernatorial screening in April this year?
