CVR: INEC warns Ekiti residents against multiple registration

By Charles Maduka

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has warned residents of Ekiti State against engaging in multiple voter registration, cautioning that anyone found culpable will be sanctioned in line with the law.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, in the state, Mr Bunmi Omoseyindemi, said offenders involved in double registration or any other infractions during the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, exercise would be dealt with accordingly.

Omoseyindemi gave the warning while speaking with journalists in Ado Ekiti during the announcement of the commencement of the second phase of the CVR exercise in the state. He explained that the new phase was designed to provide another opportunity for those who missed the first phase to either register afresh or update their voter information.

He urged stakeholders to mobilise eligible residents, particularly those who have recently attained the age of 18, to take advantage of the exercise in order to participate in the forthcoming governorship election and subsequent polls.

The REC recalled that the first phase of the CVR, which commenced in August, was suspended in December to allow for the display of voters’ data for claims and objections, noting that the process enabled the correction of errors such as misspelt names and incorrect details.

He added that INEC has fixed June 20 for the Ekiti State governorship election and has also released the provisional list of candidates, with political parties expected to conclude substitutions before the publication of the final list of candidates.
