Suspected cultists reportedly killed a 48-year-old POS operator, Fatai Kehinde, on Friday night under the Kuto bridge in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.
Kehinde, known locally as Faithy, was the son of the Baale of Kuto community in Abeokuta. He was reportedly chased from his shop inside Kuto Market to the area under the bridge where he was brutally attacked and killed by his assailants.
This murder follows the killing of another young man, a barber, in the Isale-Oja Kuto area about four days earlier.
Faithy was buried on Saturday around 2 p.m.
A reliable source within the Kuto community shared details of the incident, stating, “The killing happened last night around 11 p.m. He was popularly known as Faithy, the son of the Baale of Kuto.
He operated a POS shop and was about to close for the day when his killers arrived at his shop.
The source added, “One of them pretended to be a customer that wanted to withdraw money, while about three other guys who wore masks then came out and then shot at him.
“However, the shot was said not to have penetrated and so he tried to escape by taking to his heels, but his assailants caught up with him under Kuto bridge and butchered him to death.
“It’s possible that the assailants who killed Faithy were the same gang who murdered the barber at Isale Oja Kuto about four days earlier because we gathered that the assailants used the same jeep vehicle for their dastardly act”.
The State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, confirmed the incident on Saturday.
The CP said, “the Command is aware of the two incidents and efforts are ongoing to apprehend those behind the killings”.
