Court to Hear Case on N15tn Lagos-Calabar Highway Project

The Federal High Court in Lagos has scheduled January 27, 2025, to hear a lawsuit challenging the N15 trillion Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project awarded to HiTech Construction Company.

The case, filed by former governorship candidate Funsho Doherty, alleges that the Federal Ministry of Works contravened the law by awarding the first two phases of the project without competitive bidding.

Doherty contends that the ministry breached the Public Procurement Act 2007 and commenced construction without conducting an Environmental Impact Assessment, in violation of the Environmental Impact Assessment Act of 1992.

The plaintiff seeks a court order to nullify the award of the contract and halt further construction until due processes are adhered to, Punch reports.

The court will also determine whether the remaining sections of the project should be subjected to competitive bidding as stipulated by law.
