A Federal High Court in Akure has dismissed a case challenging the eligibility of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the November 16 Ondo governorship election.
The case, filed by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Agboola Ajayi, sought to disqualify the APC’s deputy governor-elect, Dr. Olayide Adelami, over alleged inconsistencies in submitted names.
Ajayi claimed that discrepancies in Adelami’s names, such as “Adelami Owolabi Jackson” and “Adelami Olaide Owolabi,” rendered him unqualified.
Ajayi also argued that the APC lacked validly nominated candidates for the election. The court, however, rejected these claims.
Justice Toyin Adegoke ruled that the plaintiffs lacked legal standing, as they were neither members of the APC nor participants in its primaries.
The court also determined the case was filed outside the statutory 14-day period and through an improper legal process.
Furthermore, it was noted that allegations of certificate discrepancies required evidence from the issuing authorities, which was not provided.
The court concluded that it had no jurisdiction over the matter and ruled in favor of the APC candidates, allowing them to remain on the ballot.
