Tile Dominic, a 26-year-old labourer, received an eight-week prison sentence from a Grade 1 Area Court in Lugbe, Abuja, for the theft of wire.
Following Dominic’s guilty plea, Judge Aliyu Kagarko handed down the sentence but provided an option of paying a N20,000 fine.
Prosecutor E. A. Nnamani stated in court that Dominic, residing in New Nyanya, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, had stolen a roll of 1.5mm wire belonging to an individual identified as Johnson.
Nnamani said that the theft occurred on March 28.
He added that Dominic returned on March 29 to steal more and was caught.
The prosecutor said that stealing contravened Section 287 of the Penal Code.
According to Nnamani, the convict was hired as a labourer on the NNPC Estate, Lugbe, Abuja, when he committed the offence.
Nnamani said that the matter was reported at the Lugbe Police Station by one John Ogbache, on March 29.
He said that the wire was found in Dominic’s possession, adding that during a police investigation he admitted to being guilty.
