A 39-year-old man, Prosper Ebhoze, residing at No 14, Oke-Owo, off Oka-Omo Street, Alapere-Ketu, Lagos, was remanded in a correctional centre by the Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Monday for allegedly defiling an 11-year-old girl.

Ebhoze is facing a charge of defilement, as presented by the prosecuting counsel, Insp Donjour Perezi, who informed the court that the offence occurred at noon on Oja-Omo Street, Alapere, Ketu, Lagos, where the girl was sent home from school to get some items.

The chief magistrate, M.O Tanimola, adjourned the case until March 13 for legal advice from the office of the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions. Ebhoze did not enter a plea during the hearing.

He said the minor went to her father’s shop to inform her father; unfortunately, she didn’t find him in his workshop, but she saw the defendant, who is her father’s apprentice.

“He took her to a corner, covered her mouth and defiled her. He also threatened to kill,” Perezi said.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.
