A Shari’a Court in Kano State has remanded Nura Musbahu and his fiancée, Fatima Lawal, for allegedly stealing a wedding gift (kayan lefe) from Musbahu’s sister, Aisha.
The term “kayan lefe” refers to a Hausa tradition where a man presents lavish gifts to his bride, which his family formally delivers to her, as reported by the Daily Post.
Aisha brought the couple to court in Rijiyar Lemo, Fagge LGA, accusing them of theft and receiving stolen property.
Musbahu admitted guilt when court officer Usman Idris Shu’aibu Dala read the charges, while his fiancée confessed to receiving two items, which she returned to the court.
Khadi Danbaba ordered their remand in a penal facility until June 5, 2024, and instructed their parents to appear before the court.
Meanwhile, a couple who sexually assaulted their 18-year-old niece was placed under detention at a correctional facility by an Ikeja Chief Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
